Journal - Art in the 5th project week 3

The prompt for week three was "Color Wheel".  I used Dyan Reavley water color sprays for the background.  The feathers are from a Tim Holtz die cut and then they were painted with Sparkling H2O water colors, the same technique was used for the letters. The original plan for this page was to use the stencil you see in the background as the focal point, however it just faded in with the background.  After lots of thought I saw a feather on my work table from another project and I instantly saw a color wheel made out of feathers, the rest is history. This week I am going to work on the current week's project.  And working on catching up with the other weeks in between pages.

Journal - Art in the 5th Project week two

Well as promised here is my journal page 2 from the "Documented Life journal project"  The prompt for week two was "The beginning is always today"  - Mary Shelley.  The girl on the right was inspired from a Traci Bautista drawing class I took.  The flowers in her hair were actually drawn on a piece of deli paper and scrap bookpages that I used to protect the other pages when I was painting, which I cut out and glued onto the page.  I also used some sheet rock tape to add some texture to both pages, and sprayed ink over several stencils.  The stamps and acrylic paints that I used are from Dina Wakley.   My goal is to get caught up this week.

Journal - Art in the 5th Project week one

This year I decided to participate in the Art to the Fifth's "Documented Life journal project."   Each week a new prompt for the next page is posted.   I started a little late so I am a bit behind.  The image above is my page one.  This page is a combination of  paints, spray inks, stencils and stamps.  January's theme is "The Blank Page and how to Face It"  The first week's prompt was be your own goal keeper and the art challenge was book paper.   I used some old music sheets, and the wrap from the Dyan Reaveley Journal as the page base.  Tomorrow I will post page 2 of the project.

Picking up where I left off

Well I can't believe that it has been over three years since I last wrote or did anything on this blog.  I am happy to say that I have been fortunate enough to start a new phase in my life "Retirement".  It has been 3 1/2 weeks and I have to tell you I absolutely love it.   Having the freedom to do what you want when you want is spectacular.  There are so many projects that I want to do it is hard to settle on which one I am going work on.   One of my goals when I retired was to finish some of the projects that have been started and never finished.  Happy to say that I have completed a couple so far.  The only problem is for every thing I finish I start 5 more.  The first thing that I finished was Sophia's trinket box (above).  The techniques that I used in this collage were based on what I learned in the Anna Dabrowska"Finnabar" class.  I used a picture of my daughter (Sophia's mother) as my focal point.

Zentangle

Well I finally got around to posting this page from my art journal which is a zentangle using the negative of a Tim Holtz die.  Still putting away stuff from the Springfield show.  Can't wait to use some of the techniques that I learned at the show.  Hope you enjoy.

Nurse Cindy

Today my blog is dedicated to Cyndi.  For the past 2 plus years Cyndi has worked very hard to to prepare herself to get into the Nursing Program.  Well all the hours of hard work and studying paid off.  I am so proud of her and know she is going to make a wonderful nurse.

Getting ready for ATC night

ATC

What a busy couple of weeks.  Started the week off with Paul and I celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, taking a copic marker class, going to see Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks in concert on Sunday, and last but not least starting next week I will be a whole year older which means I will have exactly 1095 days left before retirement.
I have added a gadget at the top of my page to a pretty cool Zentangle blog that has a weekly challenge.  Pretty cool site.
My graphic for this post is the digitally designed back for my ATCs for the March trade.
